The Old Fashioned glass, also known as a rocks glass, lowball or tumbler, is a short glass with a heavy base. It is made for whisky over ice and for stirred cocktails built in the glass, such as the Old Fashioned and Negroni. A double old fashioned (DOF) glass is simply a larger version, usually 300ml to 410ml.

How to choose an Old Fashioned glass
Look for a thick, weighted base that feels solid in the hand and keeps drinks cold. A 290ml to 330ml glass is ideal for a classic Old Fashioned with one large ice cube, while a 360ml to 410ml DOF gives room for more ice or a longer mixed drink.
